I think the level 7 sound would have been awesome. One idea I explored was the use of some Doom 2 music in the video. Unfortunately, ID, which was once a true gamers, and people oriented company, is now nothing more than part of a "bottom line" organization. Since they now technically own ID, and everything that comes with that name, there could be some speed bumps in getting permissions. Hopefully if you pursue this new game idea, and do need some kind of permission, you won't encounter the same road block(s.) The alternative would have been to pay $100 to Epidemic Sound, for something that would have barely done the job. Because of youtube copyright laws involving music, I had to eventually give up the idea completely. If there is any single thing that slowed the whole youtube process down, this was it. When creating my new deathmatch map, I had decided that I needed some music. If you're talking about creating a new game using the basic Quake engine, and are willing to spend the time, I'm not sure about copyright technicalities. The problem with just a mod, is that you won't have a gazillion end users interested. I would have saved dozens of hours when building my new Quake 1 map, if that ability had been there. That ability, plus a few others were not implemented, because the level designers decided at that time it was unnecessary. ![]() This mod wouldn't be at all difficult to produce, and it should have been in the original Quake engine. The number one request, would be the ability for a func_train to activate a switch. If you want to produce something that I would love, and pay plenty for, I have specific coding that I'd love to see in a mod. With so many advancements in general gaming that we didn't have in the mid 90s, it shouldn't be a big surprise if one wants to play a modern game that incorporates these enhancements. It's hard to believe, but there are serious gamers who have never heard of Quake 1. I would have no problem paying for a superior Quake 1 engine, but everybody and their brother has gotten into the mode of coding for free, as long as they get the just do credit for their work. I don't know where you got the idea that any Quake 1 engine can be sold.
